Traveling back to China in May was a very meaningful experience for me, I got to spend Mother’s Day with my mom and her mom, and I also got the chance to briefly visit the hometown of my dad. My dad’s hometown is Kunming, located in the Yunnan province, it’s often referred to as Spring City because of it’s pleasant climate year-round. While the main purpose of the trip was to help my grandpa with his apartment, we managed to explore some of Kunming’s scenic gems which included the mesmerizing stone forest, and the peaceful Dian Chi Lake. We even got to see the beautiful blue jacaranda in bloom throughout the city.
石林 Stone Forest
The Stone Forest is a must-visit when you are in Kunming. The trails have you weaving through mazes of tall limestone rock. It is quite literally like walking through a forest made of stone.
滇池 Dian Chi Lake
Dian Chi Lake is a vast freshwater lake located in the city. It was nice to see the locals enjoy the lake, it was a serene escape from bustling city life.
教场中路 Jacaranda Avenue
At the end of spring and the beginning of summer, Jacaranda flowers are in full bloom. Jiao Chang Zhong Lu is a street that has hundreds of Jacaranda trees planted along the road. It has become a tourist destination spot for the spectacular view. We were able to catch the tail end of the bloom during our visit.
Kunming's status as the "Spring City" is definitely justified, and I am beyond grateful to have been able to visit it on this trip back.
